More than 80 individuals have been killed in renewed sectarian violence in north-west Pakistan, officers say.
Another156 are stated to have been wounded in three days of preventing within the tribal district of Kurram, close to the Afghan border.
The violence started on Thursday, when gunmen attacked convoys of Shia Muslims travelling via the world below police escort. More than 40 died in that incident, which triggered revenge assaults.
Shia and Sunni Muslims have engaged in tribal and sectarian rivalries over land disputes for many years.
On Sunday an area administration official instructed AFP information company: “The clashes and convoy attacks on November 21, 22, and 23 have resulted in 82 fatalities and 156 injuries.”
Speaking on situation of anonymity, he stated that 16 of the lifeless had been Sunni and 66 belonged to the Shia group.
Those killed in Thursday’s assaults on convoys included ladies and kids. Passenger Saeeda Bano described to BBC Urdu how she feared she could be killed as she hid below the automobile seats together with her kids.
Hundreds of residents fled amid escalating violence Friday and on Saturday.
It comes after dozens of individuals died in assaults over the previous few months, prompting requires a ceasefire from a tribal council.
On Saturday provincial officers started talks with each Shia and Sunni group leaders, AFP reported.
A safety official within the provincial capital Peshawar instructed AFP that the negotiators’ helicopter had come below hearth because it arrived within the area.
