Representatives for the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) walked out of COP29 local weather talks in Baku, after dismissing a proposal of $250bn from richer nations to deal with the consequences of local weather change.
“We cannot be expected to agree to a text which shows such contempt for our vulnerable people,” the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) group mentioned in a press release.
Their nations are on the frontline of worldwide warming and the AOSIS have been one of the vocal teams in calling for sooner local weather motion.
Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijan’s lead negotiator, mentioned COP is “pushing for a fair and ambitious outcome” and a “fair and ambitious” finance deal that takes account of the wants and priorities of the growing nations in Baku.
